Student Guidelines for BYOD

    • Students in grades 6-12 are allowed but not required to bring their own digital learning device to school.
    • These devices are to be used in the same manner as school-owned devices and are subject to the Chequamegon School District Acceptable Use Policy.
    • The student-owned devices must be capable of accessing the Internet using the district wireless network or a 3G or 4G Cellular Data access plan.
    • In order to comply with Federal regulations, all student-owned devices will also be subject to the district Internet filtering policies while in school and while using the school network.  Students using their own data access plan are not filtered.
    • Virus protection is always advised, but not required. While on the CSD Public wireless network, students will be monitored through the district’s filter, so there is no need for additional filtering software.  The district network also has additional protections in place to block viruses from getting to devices from the Internet and to isolate individual devices on the network to prevent the spread of infections should a device be or become infected.
    • Devices that block 3G or 4G networking may be employed within the school at any time to prevent its usage.
    • Student-owned devices are not allowed to be used to create a wireless tether using 3G or 4G.  Monitoring solutions exist to detect such rogue networks.
    • It is strongly recommended the student-owned devices be full-functioning devices, capable of taking the place of a school-owned computer for the purpose of doing school work.  Limited functioning devices are discouraged, and students may find it necessary to use a school computer in order to properly complete their school work defeating the purpose behind BYOD.  See the list of recommended devices below.
    • The Chequamegon School District has a right to protect its network and technical resources and, therefore, all students bringing a digital computing device to school will be required to sign the Acceptable Internet Use Agreement (AUP) and the Student User Agreement for BYOD. (Contained in this packet.)

Any student who loses Internet access privileges will have his/her digital learning device either temporarily or permanently black listed from the school wireless network.
All Internet access is logged and monitored by user or by device for up to 30 days.

Theft or Damage
Since bringing your own device to school is voluntary and not mandated, the school will not be held responsible should a loss or damage occur to personal devices.
What about insurance for the device?
